Day 120

Wow!  I am exhausted.  Since I last posted we have seen the pediatric opthamologist, both boys had dental appointments, we went to the county fair, and on Wednesday morning the kids and I headed to a state park in southern Indiana to stay with a friend of mine and her kids at a cabin they rented.  We had an AMAZING time, but I am sore, sunburnt, and exhausted.  It was 105° today so we finished off our mini vacation at the pool, and everyone got sufficient sunscreen but mommy.  Oh well.  The memories were well worth it!

thumbs up!

The boys rode the ferris wheel at the county fair

Violet watched

After we unpacked and had some lunch on Wednesday, we all hiked down to the creek.

The boys were amazingly adventurous

I was super proud of them

Ginger in the creek

the babies LOVED the water....especially Violet!

Sawyer climbing up the waterfall

It was so beautiful and challenging to navigate with young kids.  There is no path down there, just rocks :)

Victory!

This is my favorite picture!

This morning I put Violet in the carrier and took the kids hiking.

They climbed down to investigate a beaver dam

and I took Violet out for a couple of photos

She was mesmerized by the forest, and happily slept on the way back to the cabin.

They found hiking sticks!

We had such a great time!  Grateful for friends who include us in their adventures...

Day 116

Typical summer morning.  They kick me out of my own bed bright and early...

then they turn their noses up at my homemade waffles and throw stuff on the floor.  Oh wait, that's just Violet ;).

more goodness from the garden!

For some reason, H has decided that this Russian dictionary is his most favorite thing ever.  He calls it his "notebook", and it has not left his side for the last 3 days.  Three year olds are funny...

8 year olds are funny too!

I picked all of this cilantro today.  You will see what I did with it  a couple of pictures down....

The watermelons are GROWING

so are the sunflowers from Nellie

Speaking of Nellie, Vi and I went over to Anya's house today to make cilantro pesto.  They have a plum tree, and Nellie set Vi up with plums.  She loved them.  Really, really, loved them!

Cilantro pesto waiting to be frozen into individual meal sized servings.

she is getting so big (I know, I say that every time, but she IS)

For dinner, I sauteed some yellow summer squash from the garden and added our homemade pesto at the end.  It was delicious.  I heart summer :)
